Alyssa L. Provencio

Dr. Alyssa L. Provencio is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and the Master of Public Administration program at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO).
Provencio works on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across campus, and serves on committees related to curriculum and pedagogy. She is the Director of the Leadership Minor, President of the Latino Faculty and Staff Association, and serves on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.
Last year, she was awarded New Faculty Member of the Year by the College of Liberal Arts. Provencio’s teaching and research interests include issues of representative bureaucracy, consensus building, and community empowerment in the discipline of emergency and disaster management.
She is also interested in access and inclusion in the classroom, particularly in the online environment.
Professionally, Dr. Provencio has worked for a number of non-profit organizations, including the Clinton Foundation, and attributes her passion for emergency management to the time she spent in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
